| Sample Text | Al-'Iqd ("The Necklace") called by his admirers "The unique necklace" and by his detractors, such as the poet al-Qalfāṯ, "The string of garlic". It is a work of the Arabic genre called adab, of a didactic and encyclopedic nature. Ibn 'Abd Rabbihi was the first author of this genre in al-Andalus and surely the best. It has received criticism from historians of Andalusian culture because in its pages no data or text from al-Andalus is mentioned except the poems of Ibn 'Abd Rabbihi himself, but this was not its purpose. Emilio García Gómez defined it very well: "It is the thesis with which al-Andalus obtains a doctorate in oriental culture." Indeed, Ibn 'Abd Rabbihi taught the Andalusians what Eastern Arab culture was in all its aspects to achieve what has been called Arab "humanism."
