The book "taḥt šams al-fikr", whose title could be translated into English as "Under the Sun of Thought", was one of the main reasons for the fame of the novelist and playwright Tawfiq al-Hakim. Throughout his career, the writer published an extensive collection of fifty novels and plays, which earned him recognition as the founder of modern Arabic drama. This book specifically is a compilation of letters and articles that al-Hakim sent to his friends, organized into four categories: religion, art, politics and women.
