Notes “The Perplexed One’s Guide to Understanding the Conditions of Man” is a fundamental work on Islamic law (fiqh), dedicated exclusively to the section “Mu'amalyat” (civil, commercial, financial and family legal relations between people). The book is a systematic presentation of the norms and provisions of the Hanafi madhhab (one of the main legal schools in Islam) in the form of articles reminiscent of a modern legal code. The purpose of the book is to serve as a clear and accessible guide (“a guide for the perplexed”) on issues of transactions, contracts, property, marriage, divorce and other aspects of human interaction based on Shariah. This work was an important step in the attempt to codify Islamic law in the 19th century and had a significant influence on the legal systems of several Muslim countries.
