The work of the outstanding Tatar theologian Murad Ramzi “Talfik al-akhbar” (“Stringing together news and reviving legends about the events that occurred in Kazan and Bulgar, as well as about the Tatar kings”) is a two-volume historical work in Arabic. Four chapters describe the events of the Turkic world, presented in chronological order.
The first part of the first volume covers the state of affairs of Volga Bulgaria, its population, and the adoption of Islam by the Bulgars. The second part is devoted to the heyday of the Volga Bulgaria state. The third part deals with the history of the formation of Kazan and the formation of the government in the capital of Bulgaria. The fourth part covers the period from the capture of Kazan by the Russian Tsar to the time the book was written.
In conclusion, the history of the Astrakhan, Crimean, Uzbek, Bukhara, Khorezm and Kazakh khans is outlined.”
The second volume of the work “Talfik al-akhbar” contains the third and fourth sections. In the third, M. Ramsay talks about the history of Kazan before its annexation to Russia. The fourth section deals with the events that took place in the Volga region after the annexation and until the end of the 19th century. and “about scientists from these regions” - about one hundred and sixty religious, cultural, and political figures of their time.
On the pages of his book, M. Ramsay stipulates two purposes for writing this work: the first is to remind his people of their history, origin and current situation. The second is to introduce this historical justice to other peoples who did not know about the existence of Bulgaria and confused the Tatars with the Mongols. This was especially true for Arabs and other peoples of the Muslim world. It is for this purpose that this work was written in Arabic. |
