Notes Khoja Ahmed Yasawi (died 1166), Hanafi madhhab scholar and spiritual guide. He was born in the city of Isfijab (modern Sairam in Kazakhstan), but lived most of his life in Turkestan (also located in the southern part of Kazakhstan). He was a student of Aryslan Bab, a famous preacher of Islam. At a time when the Farsi language occupied a dominant position in literature and public life, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi wrote in his native language. The work “Divan-i Hikmet” (“Book of Wisdom”) written by Yasawi is not only the spiritual shrine of Sufi literature, it is also one of the most important works written in the ancient Tatar language. The printed edition presented here was published in 1904 by the printing press of the Kazan Imperial University.
