| Notes | The book Al-Iman is a classic work by the outstanding Ottoman scholar and reformer Taqiyuddin al-Birqawi (al-Birqawi) (d. 981 AH/1573), a representative of the Hanafi madhhab and the Maturidi school. In this work, al-Birguwi deeply and systematically examines the concept of iman (faith) in Islamic theology, relying on reliable hadiths and statements of early scholars. The work represents an important contribution to the debate on issues of faith, deeds, hypocrisy and the position of sinners in Islam, which makes it relevant both for specialists and for a wider Muslim audience. The publication is accompanied by tahkyk (scientific verification of the text) and commentaries that shed light on the theological context of the book. Particular attention is paid to the accuracy of terminology and references to primary sources. According to contemporaries and subsequent scholars such as Mulla Ali al-Qari, al-Birguwi earned a high reputation as “our imam” (إمامنا), which is confirmed by the laudatory poem written in his honor. |
