| Sample Text | However, certain facts do not mean that in Sunni Islam there is no tradition that accompanies the wedding. In fact, one widespread tradition is for the bride to propose to the groom as did Khadijah, Muhammad's first wife, who proposed to the prophet. According to another tradition that is widespread, the bride and groom say the following phrase: "In the tradition of the prophets I agree that... etc." Thus, the belief and explicit knowledge of customs or the prophet's sunna is a central component of Sunni identity.
