| Sample Text | Sunni and Shia hadith collections differ because the scholars of the two traditions have different views on the reliability of narrators and transmitters. The narrators who took the side of Abu Bakr and Umar rather than Ali in the leadership debates that followed Muhammad's death are unacceptable Shi'ites; more acceptable are the narrators who refer to Ali and Muhammad's family, as well as those who supported them. Sunni scholars have faith in narrators, such as Aisha, who are rejected by Shiites. Differences between hadith collections contributed to differences in religious practice and Sharia law, so the dividing lines between the two traditions became irreconcilable. |
