Sample Text In the Shia tradition, it is claimed that after the appearance of Gabriel, Muhammad was neither surprised nor afraid, but rather welcomed him as if he had expected him. The first revelation was followed by a break of three years during which Muhammad continued to devote himself to prayers and spiritual practice. When the revelations were renewed, Muhammad was re-assured and commanded to preach: "Your Lord your guardian has not cursed you nor is He displeased." Sahih Bukhari narrates that Muhammad described the revelations as follows: "Sometimes (it is revealed) like the ringing of bells," and Aisha stated: "I saw the Prophet being divinely inspired one cold day and noticed sweat pouring from his forehead (after the inspiration ended)." Year of publication: 1776.
