| Sample Text | Dialects are usually not written, although a certain number of literary works (especially plays and poetry) are present in a large number of dialects. Literary Arabic is the official language in all Arab countries and is the only form of Arabic taught at school in all grades. The sociolinguistic situation of Arabic today represents a real example of the linguistic phenomenon of diglossia, the use of two different varieties of the same language, usually in different social circumstances. Educated Arabic speakers can usually communicate in SSA in formal situations around the world. |
