Sample Text The basic unit of Islamic society is the family, and Islam determines the obligations and rights of family members. The father is considered financially responsible for his family and is obliged to meet their needs for the sake of well-being. The division of inheritance is determined in the Koran, where it is claimed that the largest part of the property goes to the closest family members, while a part is set aside for debt payment and inheritance. With some exceptions, a woman's share of inheritance is usually half of a man's share with the same right of inheritance. Marriage in Islam is a civil contract consisting of an offer and acceptance between two qualified parties in the presence of witnesses. The groom is required to pay the bride a marriage gift (mahr), as stipulated in the contract.
