| Sample Text | Irab is the Arabic term for the system of noun and adjective suffixes in classical Arabic. These suffixes are recorded in fully vocalized texts, primarily in the Koran or in texts written for children or intended for those learning Arabic, and they are pronounced when the text is officially read aloud, but they have not survived in any spoken dialect of Arabic. Even in literary Arabic, these suffixes are often not pronounced during a pause, i.e. when the word is found at the end of the sentence in accordance with certain rules of pronunciation of the Arabic language. (This means that the nunation suffix -n is often dropped at the end of a sentence or poetic verse; there may or may not be a vowel suffix, depending on the requirements of the meter.)
