| Sample Text | The Islamic historiographical tradition began to develop from the beginning of the seventh century with the reconstruction of Muhammad's life after his death. Since the stories about Muhammad and his companions came from various sources, it was necessary to confirm which sources were more reliable. Various methodologies have been developed to evaluate these sources, such as the science of biography, the science of hadith, and isnad (chain of transmission). Such methodology was later applied to other historical figures in the Islamic world. Ilmar-rijal is the science of biography, especially applied in Islam where it was initially applied to the sira, the life of the prophet of Islam Muhammad and then to the life of the four orthodox caliphs who quickly spread Islamic supremacy. |
