| Sample Text | The revival of Arabic poetry at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century manifested itself primarily in the neoclassical style. Themes and forms of some old poets were deliberately used, and among them Hafiz Ibrahim is one of the best examples. The latter poets rejected the Arabic neoclassical style, many, in contrast, looked for inspiration in romanticism, especially English poetry. Poets like Said Akl from Lebanon, with close ties to France, were more influenced by the Symbolist movement. A common theme in much of this poetry was the use of ghazals or love poems as a sign of praise for the poet's homeland. This manifests either as nationalism in the newly formed states in the region or in a broader sense Arab nationalism that emphasizes the unity of the Arab people. |
