| Sample Text | There is no centralized doctrinal body or central spiritual authority for the entire Islamic society. The processes that led to the formalization of Islamic law, Sharia, were therefore multi-layered. There are four schools of Sunni law that have survived historical changes and still exist today. (Although there are other Sunni schools of law, they are followed by a very small number of people and are relatively unknown.) Those four madhhabs (schools of law) were named after great teachers whose methodology and approach to hadith and practice were most pronounced for generations of students and scholars after their death. |
