| Sample Text | There are several elements of courtly love that were developed in Arabic poetry, such as the mention of love for love's sake and the delight of the beloved lady, which can be traced back to the ninth and tenth centuries in Arabic literature. Mention of the ennobling power of love was developed at the beginning of the eleventh century by the Persian psychologist and philosopher Ibn Sina (known to us as Avicenna) in a treatise in Arabic entitled Risala fi l-ishk (Treatise on Love). The final element of courtly love, the notion of love as never-fulfilled desire, was also occasionally implicit in Arabic poetry. Year of publication: 1793/94. |
