| Sample Text | The first principle laid down by the Koran refers to men and women of the same rank and class. This means that a son inherits a share equal to that inherited by two daughters, a natural brother inherits a share equal to that inherited by two sisters, a son's son inherits twice the share inherited by a son's daughter, etc. That principle, however, is not universally applied, as we shall see later in verse 4:12; a descendant on the mother's side, above all a maternal brother and a maternal sister, inherits as much as their heirs. "If there are more than two wives (daughters), then two-thirds of the inheritance follows; and if there is only one, then it is half." (Quran 4:11) Women in this context mean daughters.
