| Sample Text | Examples of fatwas from today: In 2001, the Grand Mufti of Egypt issued a fatwa claiming that the quiz Do you want to become a millionaire? (modeled after the British quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?) non-Islamic. The sheikh of Cairo's al-Azhar University later rejected the fatwa, arguing that there is no reason to oppose such quizzes since they spread general knowledge. Sheikh Sadeq Abdallah bin al-Majed, the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan, issued a fatwa banning the vaccination of children, claiming it represented a conspiracy by Jews and Freemasons. |
