| Sample Text | While today the study of Western logic is an established field of research, contributing both to contemporary philosophy and logic as well as to the intellectual history of the Middle Ages, the study of logic in the pre-colonial Islamic world is still in its infancy. However, it is still unclear what is the contribution of logicians who write in Arabic and especially their significance or novelty. There is, likewise, a dangerous temptation in that state of relative underdevelopment to pay attention too readily to the work of scholars engaged in the study of medieval literature in the Latin language and to adopt the methods, assumptions, and even historical patterns that have been useful in the domain of the same discipline in the West. Year of publication: 1600. |
