| Sample Text | From about the second century BC, several inscriptions from Karjatu l-Faw (near Sulayil) reveal a dialect that is no longer considered Proto-Arabic but Pre-Classical Arabic. By the fourth century AD, the Lakhmid Arab kingdoms in southern Iraq, the Ghassanids in southern Syria, and the Kindist kingdom in central Arabia had emerged. Some notable examples of pre-Islamic Arabic poetry appeared at their courts, and several pre-Islamic inscriptions in the Arabic script have been preserved. |
