Sample Text Sunnis do not consider life events such as birth or marriage a religious ceremony. Instead, daily activities are imbued with a sense of ceremony based on the Muhammadan tradition. Together with special concepts of sacred time and sacred space, systems that have a stronger religious component thus sacralize the performance of some activities, rites in processions and significant life changes. Sunni Islam has a special way of commemorating significant moments in life, including the birth of a child, marriage and death. Unlike Christianity, however, where religious rites include baptism and marriage, or Judaism, where the transition to adulthood is marked by a bar or bat mitzvah ceremony, Sunni Islam does not consider the traditions surrounding events such as weddings and births as religious ceremonies.
