| Sample Text | The need to learn Arabic lexicology for true Islamic studies is conditioned by two additional factors. The first is the fact that large parts of the classical lexicon have not been preserved in general use. Rather, they have become corrupted, obsolete, or used with a different meaning. This means that knowledge of classical Arabic lexicon cannot be simply picked up from an Arabic environment. Another fact is the legendary lexical complexity of Arabic. The language abounds in synonyms, related forms, tribal dialectal variants of the same terms, and multiple plurals and verbal nouns for the same word. |
