| Sample Text | The first Islamic countries independent of a single Islamic state arose from the Berber rebellion (739/740-743 AD). In 836, Caliph al-Mutasim moved the capital to Samarra, and in 892 it was returned to Baghdad. In 930, a group of Ismailis known as the Carmatians revolted unsuccessfully against the Abbasids, sacked Mecca, and stole the Black Stone. By 1055, the Seljuk Turks had eliminated the Abbasids as a military power, but the Caliph's titular authority remained. The Mongol Empire ended the Abbasid dynasty after they killed the last caliph in the Battle of Baghdad in 1258. |
