| Sample Text | According to Muslims, Sharia law is based on the words of Allah revealed in the Koran and traditions collected from the life of the Prophet Muhammad. Muhammad was born in 570 AD in Mecca, a trading city in the Arabian desert. Besides being the center of trade on the caravan routes, Mecca was also a place of pilgrimage for Arabs of many faiths. The center of religion in Mecca was the Kaaba, a stone building believed to have been built by Adam at the beginning of time and rebuilt by the prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael. Mecca was inhabited by Quraysh, members of a mostly pagan tribe, among whom lived some Jews and Christians. Muhammad became an orphan when he was a child and his uncle took him under his wing. Year of publication: 1817. |
