| Sample Text | During the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad, all the legal rules (ahkam) of the Sharia, including all its divisions, such as the most important and derived rules, teachings on the foundations of faith and regulations related to personal practice and rulings, came from two sources, the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Ijtihad was applied by the Prophet and those of his followers with inclinations toward justice (ahl an-nazar). The Prophet's ijtihad is sometimes confirmed in the Qur'an and sometimes not; in such a case it is explained that the better solution is different from the one accepted by the prophet.
