| Sample Text | In Arabic, pre-Islamic poetry is usually called jahiliyyah poetry, literally the poetry of the heathen times. The first great poet of the pre-Islamic period was Imru l-Qays, the last ruler of the Kinda kingdom. Although most of the poetry of that era has not been preserved, what has been preserved is considered the best Arabic poetry to date. In addition to eloquence and artistic value, pre-Islamic poetry represents the main source of the Arabic classical language, both in the grammatical and lexical sense, and is considered a reliable historical record of the political and cultural life of that era. |
