Sample Text Al-Qarabisi, a famous scholar from the age of Ash-Shafi'i, said the following: "I did not attend anything more noble than Ash-Shafi'i's classes. They were attended by people who deal with hadith, as well as those who deal with law and poetry. Most of the famous scholars in the fields of poetry and linguistics visited him often and would listen to his lectures on all these disciplines." Baghdad in Iraq and Cairo in Egypt were the main centers of activity of Imam Ash-Shafi'i. It was from those two cities that the teachings of Ash-Shafi's school spread. During the reign of Sultan Salahuddin (Saladin), Ash-Shafi's madhhab was the most prominent in Egypt and to this day the imam of the Al-Azharuvka mosque belongs to the Shafi'ite school and that teaching is diligently studied together with those three other schools among the Sunnis.
