Sample Text What contributed to Ash-Shafi'i gaining the title of revivalist in the second century AH was that he laid the foundations of justice (usul al-fiqh). Scholars before him knew how to collect the hadiths they heard in their own country and when one hadith seemed to contradict another, they used their personal judgment to decide which was the most acceptable. Then, at the time of Ash-Shafi, the prophet's hadiths were collected from various countries, and there was a growing disagreement among scholars that the witness Ash-Shafi did not write the famous book Ar-Risala, which is considered the basis of Islamic jurisprudence.
