| Sample Text | Arud (Arabic: al-arud) is a discipline that the Arabs call the science of poetry (Arabic: ilmash-shir). Its rules were set by the old poet al-Farahidi who did it in response to many requests from younger poets. Reading and writing arud is based on the term haraka, which indicates that the letter above is followed by a short vowel, and, u or nasukun, also called sakin, which indicates that the letter above is not followed by any short vowel, but perhaps a long one. There are phrases to facilitate the memorization of arud characters (mnemonic methods). Such is the case here, this sentence would literally read like this: I didn't see a fish on top of the mountain. |
