Sample Text God is described and addressed by certain names or attributes, the most famous of which are Ar-Rahman which means Compassionate and Ar-Rahim which means Merciful. Muslims believe that God created everything in the universe and that the purpose of life is faith in God. He is seen as a personal God who answers every time he is called by someone who needs him or when he is in trouble. There are no mediators, such as the clergy, for a connection with God who says: "We are nearer to him than (his) beating heart." Allah is a term that has no plural or gender and is used by Muslims, Christians and Arabic-speaking Jews to mean one God, while Ilah is a term used for deity or god in general.
