Sample Text Since the assessment of the veracity of Muhammad's sayings is a major area of study (isnad), an accurate biography has always been of utmost importance to Islamic biographers who accordingly sought to extract fact from accusation, prejudice from evidence, etc. The modern practice of scientific reporting and historical method owes much to the strict isnad tradition at the beginning of Islam. The oldest preserved Islamic biography is Ibn Ishaq's Siratura sul Allah (Biography of God's Prophet), written in the eighth century, but known to us only from later references and reviews (9th-10th century). The science of hadith is the process Islamic scholars use to assess the authenticity of hadith. The classification of hadith into sahih (valid), hasan (good) and daif (weak) was firmly established by Aliibn al-Madini (161-234 A.H.). Year of publication: 1850.
