| Sample Text | The Nabataean alphabet is a consonantal alphabet (abjad) used by the Nabateans in the second century BC. Important inscriptions were found in Petra. That alphabet came from Aramaic through the Syriac alphabet. The cursive form grew into the Arabic alphabet from the fourth century AD, which is why the letterforms are a transitional form between more northern Semitic scripts (such as Hebrew) and Arabic. Year of publication: 1329. |
