He received a traditional education with the intention of becoming a scholar and therefore learned both Persian and Arabic. Around 1120, he was appointed a judge in his hometown. In addition to his official duties, he devoted himself more and more to writing and mysticism. His first voluminous work was Zubdat al-Haqa'iq (The Essence of Truth), written in Arabic in 1122. After that work, he wrote Maktubat (Letters) and Tamhidat (Essays), which he wrote in Persian mixed with Arabic. In 1130 he was arrested, taken to Baghdad and imprisoned. During the period spent in prison, he wrote the apologetic work Sha l-Gharib (Complaint of the Exile). In 1131, he was again taken to Hamadan and executed. Year of publication: 1614.
