| Sample Text | Arabic prosody had a striking effect on the education of classical Arabic. There is general agreement among scholars that Classical Arabic was a super-tribal language, the Koine, used in the pre-Islamic period by poets, seers and composers of rhymed prose, and that it was never the spoken language of any Arabic-speaking tribe or group. It was therefore never a natural but a cultivated language that developed to serve its purpose, so to speak, poetry with problems of prosody, especially meter, and rhyming prose. |
