| Sample Text | There are some observations in what is probably the most striking difference between Arabic and the vast majority of modern European languages, not only Serbian. It is the fact that the Arabic language is more diglossic. Diglossia is a term that means two languages. It was popularized by Charles Ferguson, a linguist from Stanford University in an important article published in 1959, where for the first time a phenomenon that runs through the entire history of human language (though not always in all linguistic communities) is systematically described: the presence of two different languages with separate syntactic and morphological structures, as part of the essential linguistic repertoire of a certain language community. Year of publication: 1585. |
