Sample Text In the Arabic language, there are three short vowels, three long vowels and two diphthongs (formed by combining short a with semivowels j and w). Allophony is partially conditioned by neighboring consonants within the same word. However, the actual rules governing vowel withdrawal are vastly more complex and have relatively little to do with the adopted standard of Modern Standard Arabic, as they often represent observations that conflict with what constitutes a respectable form.
