| Sample Text | There are many indications that ijtihadith is legal and important in the contemporary context. For example, Mu'adh ibn Jabal claims that the Prophet Muhammad asked him after sending him to Yemen: "What will you do if you have to rule on a matter?" Mu'ad replied, "I will judge according to the Book of God." The prophet asked him: "What if you do not find a solution in God's book?" Mu'adh replied, "Then I will judge on the basis of the Prophet's Sunnah." The Prophet asked, "And what if you do not find it in the Prophet's Sunnah?" Mu'adh replied, "Then I will apply jihad to gain my own judgment." The Prophet slapped Mu'adh on the chest and said: "Glory be to Allah who guides the Messenger of His Prophet in what pleases him and his Prophet." Year of publication: 1572. |
