| Sample Text | If someone is sick, a nursing woman or a traveler, they are considered to be exempt from fasting. Any fast that is interrupted or missed due to illness, breastfeeding or travel must be made up when the person is able to do so before the next month of Ramadan. According to the Koran, in all other cases, exemption from fasting is allowed only when the act is potentially dangerous to one's health, e.g. The elderly who are too weak to fast for a long period of time, diabetics, nursing mothers and pregnant women, but this must be redeemed by paying fidya which is usually iftar, dinner and suhoor for the fasting person who needs financial assistance.
