Sample Text Some people use the term fatwa to refer to a death sentence in Islam that has been passed against a person. In fact, it is only one of many possibilities (and could be brought in case something is prohibited) although fatwa is rarely used in such cases. The correct definition of this term is broader since a fatwa can refer to all aspects of an individual's life, to social norms, religion, war, peace, jihad and politics. The majority of Islamic opinions (millions of fatwas have been issued during the more than fourteen hundred years of Islam's existence) refer to worldly issues that Muslims face in their daily lives, such as wedding customs, financial issues, moral issues, etc. Year of publication: 1672/73.
