Sample Text The astrolabe appeared in the Islamic world in the eighth and ninth centuries through translations of Greek texts. The astrolabe was fully developed in the early period of the existence of Islam. Arabic treatises on the astrolabe appeared in the ninth century and they indicate that the subject was close to the Arabs for a long time (the oldest preserved Arabic instruments date from the tenth century and there are almost forty instruments from the eleventh and twelfth centuries). The astrolabe was extremely important in Islam because of its ability to determine the time of day and therefore the time for prayer and as a means of determining the location of Mecca. It must also be pointed out that astrology was deeply rooted in the early culture of Islam and that the astrolabe was used primarily for the purpose of astrology. Year of publication: 1765.
