Sample Text Muhammad's mission involves the preaching of monotheism: the Koran commands Muhammad to proclaim and praise the name of God and instructs him not to worship idols or to associate other deities with God. The main themes of the early Qur'anic verses included man's responsibility to the creator, the resurrection of the dead, God's final judgment followed by a vivid description of the torments of Hell and the enjoyment of Paradise, and God's signs in all aspects of life. At the same time, religious duties required very little from believers: faith in God, seeking forgiveness for sins, frequent prayers, helping others, especially those in need, rejecting fraud and love of wealth (which was considered important for commercial life in Mecca), honesty and the prohibition of killing female infants. Year of publication: 1689.
