Question: I work for a billing company. When we finish the work, our firm usually gives the client some small gift to maintain good business relations. It is the task of senior officials to give the client something as a present. Since I am a senior official, it is currently my duty to give gifts to the client. Gifts are always different, from mugs, computer accessories, etc. The current gift is a bottle of wine. I am very concerned about giving it away to non-Muslim clients. What is the Islamic rule regarding my situation? Can I give away bottles of wine? Answer: It is not permissible to give wine to clients whether they are Muslim or not. God's prophet cursed the man who even carries wine. It was narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Umar that the Prophet of God said: "Allah has cursed wine, the one who drinks it, the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who presses it, the one who produces it, the one who carries it and the one to whom it is given" (Abu Dawud, hadith no. 3676, Tirmizi, hadith no. 1342, Musnad Ahmed, hadith no. 2953) And Allah knows best.
