| Sample Text | Hijra represents the transition of Muhammad and his followers from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. In September 622, after he was warned that there was a plot to kill him, Muhammad secretly slipped out of Mecca and set off with his followers to Medina, which is 320 kilometers north of Mecca. Hijra is celebrated once a year on the first day of the Islamic year. A delegation consisting of representatives of twelve important clans in Medina invited Muhammad to Medina as a neutral man to be the chief arbiter of the entire community.
