| Sample Text | On the basis of a sermon attributed to Ali by the Shias, he maintained his right to the authority of the caliphate and said the following: "By Allah, the son of Abu Kuhafa (Abu Bakr) clothed himself with it (the caliphate) and certainly knew that my position in relation to it emphasized the position of the shaft in relation to the handmill... I raised the curtain against the caliphate and did not interfere... I watched them robbing me of my inheritance until the first left, but after him he handed over the caliphate to Ibn al-Hatabu." The issue of Abu Bakr's election is still disputed in the Shia branch of Islam. |
