| Sample Text | The difference between the members of Muhammad's family and descendants (ahl al-bayt) and the caliph Abu Bakr was shaped by Shia and non-Shia views on parts of the Qur'an, the hadith (the stories of Muhammad), and other areas of Islam. For example, the hadith collection revered by Shia Muslims centers on the stories of members of the Ahl al-Bayt and their followers while some hadiths narrated by individuals who do not belong to the Ahl al-Bayt or its followers (eg those narrated by Abu Hurayrah) are not included. According to the Sunni view, Ali was the fourth successor of Abu Bakr while the Shiites claim that Ali was the first divinely chosen imam or successor of Muhammad. Year of publication: 1623/24. |
