| Sample Text | Arabic has two genders which are expressed by pronoun and verb agreement. Agreeing with numbers implies a special polarity. Genders are usually depicted as male and female, but in reality the situation is much more complex. The feminine gender is also used to express collective nouns. The feminine gender is marked by the suffix -t-, but some nouns without this feature are also feminine (e.g. umm - mother, ard - earth). Even in classical Arabic, the -t mark is not pronounced during a pause. It is written with a special letter (ta marbuta) indicating that the sound t is pronounced in sandia and not in pause. |
