| Sample Text | The doctrine of Zaydi Imams does not assume the infallibility of the Imams nor does the Imams receive divine guidance. The Zaydis also do not believe that the Imamate must be passed from father to son, but believe that it can be held by any Sayyid who is a descendant of either Hasan ibn Ali or Husayn ibn Ali (as was the case after the death of Hasan ibn Ali). In a historical sense, the Zaydis considered Zayd to be the rightful successor of the fourth imam since he led the rebellion against the Umayyads, i.e. against tyranny and depravity. Muhammad al-Bakir did not take part in political action and the followers of Zayd believe that the true imam must fight against corrupt rulers. Year of publication: 1748. |
