| Sample Text | Translators translate the Arabic word walad in various ways, such as child, son, children or birth. However, there is universal agreement among Sunni Islamic jurists that walad here refers to any child or grandchild on the father's side (grandchild through a son). If there is a child or grandchild from the father's side among the heirs, then each parent inherits one sixth. If there is no child or grandchild on the father's side, the mother inherits one third; under these circumstances the father's share was not mentioned. |
