| Sample Text | Dalail al-hajrat (Guide to Good Deeds) is the first major book in Islamic history to contain the litanies of peace and blessings of the Prophet Muhammad. It is also the most beloved and universal collection of litany of prayers to God for the blessing of the prophets. Among some Sunti religious orders, primarily the Shadili-Jazuli order, it is recited daily. In other lines, on the other hand, its recitation is a completely voluntary daily practice. The work begins with ninety-nine names of God and then continues with a collection of over a hundred names of the Prophet Muhammad. The legend behind the origin of Dalail al-hajrat says that on one occasion Imam al-Jazuli woke up late for the morning prayer and searched in vain for clean water to ritually wash himself. In the middle of his search, al-Jazuli met a girl who knew very well how famous al-Jazuli was for his piety and was confused as to why al-Jazuli could not find clean water. The girl then spat into the well, which miraculously overflowed with pure fresh water so that al-Jazuli could wash himself. |
