Notes The small, illuminated single-volume copy of the Qur'an was produced in Iran in the nineteenth century. The Qur'anic text begins with an illuminated double-page frontispiece with the verses of chapter 1 (Surat al-fatihah) and chapter 2 (Surat al-baqarah) decorated with interlinear illumination and framed by a polychrome border. The text is written in naskh script in black throughout, with interlinear illuminated discs separating the verses. Chapter headings are in red riqa? script on a gold background. The nineteenth-century lacquer binding with floral composition on a red field is contemporary with the manuscript.
